Annotation

The degree course in Social Sciences combines Sociology and Political Science and includes sound methodological training. It therefore not only provides sound education in each of the selectable key areas of Sociology and Political Science, but also inter-disciplinary perspectives on the joint topics of the disciplines. The final decision for one of the specialisation areas can be made over the course of studies. Both major areas and their complementary minor subjects are comprised of subject-specific compulsory and optional required modules. The course of study begins with an introduction to each of the chosen specialisation disciplines, combined with an introduction to the techniques of academic work. The core programme of the major in Political Science encompasses the fields of Political Theory, State and Domestic Politics, International Politics, Comparative Political Science and European Governance. The core programme in the major in Sociology is divided into the areas of Sociological Theories, Micro-Social Structures, Macro-Social Structures, Business and Organisational Sociology as well as (further) special sociologies. Both versions include sound education in Social Science in the area of quantitative and qualitative methods. The complementary minor subject includes a choice of subject-specific modules from the discipline that was not selected as a major. The Bachelor's degree qualifies students to enter a profession and for admission to a subject-related Master's course, including the Master's degree courses in European Governance: Market-Power-Community, International Migration and Cross Cultural Relations, Political Science: Democratic Rule and Civilian Society and Sociology: Dynamics of Social Change at the Universität Osnabrück.
