The Master's degree course in Computer Science enables students to use scientific methods and knowledge for difficult and complex IT problems in industry as well as in research. Sustainable IT-related approaches with concepts and methods based on theory are taught. Computer Science in Osnabrück covers the natural and cognitive sciences, the mathematical, theoretical and engineering sciences that are intrinsic to computer science, and also involves inter-disciplinary collaboration with other institutes. The Master's course makes individual specialisation possible. The course contents are research-oriented in accordance with the key research areas of the Institute of Computer Science, but have a strong relation to practice. In the Master's degree course, a research and development project running over two semesters is offered in project groups of eight to ten students. In the course of this, not only is the respective computer science content dealt with and integrated intensively, but essential social skills are also deepened at the same time. The Master’s degree opens up the opportunity to do a doctorate and, with the appropriate course planning/fulfilment of the relevant requirements, admission to any possible doctorate.\; at the University of Osnabrück accordingly the access to the doctoral programme in computer science and with corresponding programme planning/fulfilment of the access requirements the access to the doctoral programme in cognitive science. The degree qualifies students for broad and diverse professional fields, ranging from employment in the information/communication sector, in companies (company consultation), local authorities, banks, insurance companies to academia and teaching.

Admission requirements

Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Mathematics/Computer Science, Applied Systems Science, Physics with Computer Science or Cognitive Science. Proof of English language skills at language level B2 according to the CEFR and sufficient knowledge of the German language. Also proof of certain course credits regarding specific content according to the admission regulations.
