Target group

The MSc course in Psychology qualifies graduates to work independently as psychologists in a variety of professional fields. The Master's degree course conveys in-depth methodological and scientific knowledge as well as thorough practical qualifications for a practising career and research. It prepares for independent activities in selected areas of work (health and social services, education, science, administration, economics, law). Within the degree course, it is possible to specialise in one of two major subjects, Human in Work Environments and Perception, Cognition and Development. The course can also be undertaken without a major subject. In addition, the JLU offers a structured pre-doctoral degree course "PreProPsych".

Admission requirements

The requirement is a degree relevant to the course with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters (total 180 CP), which was successfully completed leading to a Bachelor of Science in Psychology or an academic degree recognised as equivalent. Studies at a German or foreign higher education institution that meet the following criteria are considered relevant: Psychological modules worth at least 120 CP, Experimental psychological work placement (at least 9 CP), Module(s) with graded course in Psychological Methodology (at least 9 CP), Graded course in Psychological Diagnostics (at least 6 CP), at least four modules (at least 6 CP each) with graded course in the following basic subjects: General Psychology, Biological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Differential/Personality Psychology, Social Psychology, at least two modules with graded course (at least 6 CP) in psychological application subjects such as Clinical Psychology, Occupational and Organisational Psychology.
