Area of studyPsychology
The study programme provides broad basic knowledge of psychological theories and goes into more detail on clinical psychology and diagnostics. The guiding theme here is the holistic view of people with regard to their perception, experience and actions. Students try different methods of psychotherapy and, from the beginning of the course, receive different ways to apply theoretical knowledge in practical terms and/or actively contribute and engage in order to develop their personality. In spring and autumn, the University of Witten/Herdecke organises a CAMPUS Day, offering an opportunity to gain an impression of the university on site. If you want to test student life in Witten as a student for one day, you can do so on so-called taster days.
The course is not subject to admission restrictions. Admission is granted based on a personal selection procedure. This includes application via the campus online system for examining the formalities for admission to higher education and the motivation of the applicant as well as a personal interview before a selection committee. Course-specific admission requirement is a three-month internship or the confirmation of an internship position in a clinical facility or counselling centre (occupational activities in the psychosocial area are eligible). The internship must be completed by the time of registration/enrolment.\\\; Internship/professional activity must not be older than two years.

The tuition fee is based on the income that can be expected later on. The university allows for studying regardless of one’s financial background thanks to a reverse generation contract: Students can opt for immediate payment, delayed income-dependent payment or 50% immediate payment and 50% delayed payment. A maximum limit provides an upward cap on the payment. Payment is generally only for the standard period of study, even if it is exceeded.
