Admission requirements

You can only enrol in the Bachelor’s degree programme if you Has the certificate of higher education entrance qualification (general or restricted qualification to a relevant subject) or the certificate of entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife) or evidence of previous education that is recognised as equivalent by legislation or the responsible state authority, or if he or she fulfils the requirements for applicants who are considered to be qualified as a result of vocational training or those under the regulations on applicants with international educational qualifications. As a further admission requirement, applicants must provide evidence of basic knowledge and skills in the field of pop music and media culture. Proof of course-related basic knowledge and skills is a requirement of enrolment. In addition practical experience in music and media (e.g. as a band musician, instrumentalist, DJ, music editor) and knowledge in general music teaching is desirable. Proof of the basic knowledge and skills related to the degree programme is provided by passing an aptitude test which comprises the following parts: a)\tA written part of a maximum of 60 minutes on contemporary pop music and media culture issues. Details of the form and duration will be determined by the selection board. b)\tAn interview of about 15 minutes with the examination board about the basic knowledge and skills related to the programme of study and their ability to develop. The aptitude test is specifically designed to determine the basic pop music-related formulation, expression and reflection skills in writing and language as well as the ability to make aesthetic judgements on scientific questions. The Board will draw up a protocol including an evaluation of the interview and written work. Written work and interview are weighted 40:60 in building the grade. The aptitude test is passed if the two parts (written paper and interview) are each passed and the examination board has thus established that the applicant has the necessary prerequisites to meet the requirements of the Bachelor's degree programme in Popular Music and Media. The details of the aptitude assessment procedure are regulated by the examination board responsible for the degree programme
