Target group

The Master's degree course is primarily oriented towards graduates from departments related to economics, who wish to acquire or consolidate knowledge in the various areas of Media Law. It also offers working professionals who have been employed in the field of media for several years the opportunity to refresh their knowledge in the constantly changing and progressive area of law. Civil service interns can also take this course.

Annotation

German and international applicants with German education apply directly to the Department. Please submit applications for the winter semester by 30 June, applications for the summer semester by 28 February. Entry into the summer semester is possible for fully qualified lawyers by arrangement.

Admission requirements

First State Law Examination or equivalent professionally qualifying final examination of a Law degree course with a standard period of study of at least four years at a university in Germany or abroad and at least six months of professional experience in the field of law or in the media or in a legal traineeship. If the candidate does not have the aforementioned undergraduate certificate of academic degree, admission is also granted if the following requirements are met: a. Submission of a higher education entrance qualification b. At least 3 years of relevant professional experience and c. Passing an aptitude interview Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German are required to provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH).

    Applicants who gained their higher education entrance qualification abroad must have their certificates recognised usually 6 weeks before the application deadline (www.uni-mainz.de/incoming). The certificate of recognition must be attached to the application. For applicants with foreign certificates, JGU offers preparatory German courses or the Studienkolleg to prepare for the assessment test (application deadlines see www.studium.uni-mainz.de/bewerbungsfristen).

    Applicants who gained their higher education entrance qualification abroad should have their certificates recognised early on via the Student Service (www.uni-mainz.de/incoming). The application for recognition should be submitted six to eight weeks before the respective application deadline, as the certificate of recognition must be enclosed with the application. For Master´s degree programmes with an aptitude test, the application deadline already ends on 15.11.2019.
