Target group

The consecutive Master's degree course is a scientific course which builds on a first professionally qualifying degree and results in additional professionally qualifying degree. It aims to convey in-depth scientific knowledge in the field of Geography. The world is constantly changing. The Master's degree course in Physical Geography "Climate and Environmental Change" offers scientifically-oriented training with a focus on the geographical aspects of global climate and environmental change. The central focus of the Master's is the examination of climate and environmental changes on various spatial and temporal scales. Oriented towards the research activities in Mainz, the MSc Climate and Environmental Change focuses mainly on the fields of Paleoclimatology, Geoarchaeology and Urban Climatology. A fundamental understanding of climate change and associated processes on pre-industrial and current time scales not only forms a sound foundation for addressing socially relevant scientific questions within the context of global climate change. The Master's degree also considers that in the future, jobs will multiply in the fields of detection, prevention and adaptation to climate and environmental change.

Annotation

The introduction of an admission restriction for winter semester 21/22 is subject to the approval of the relevant university committees. If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be proven: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education institution, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Admission requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a university in Germany or abroad. a) in Geography/Physical Geography with at least 130 CP in Geography modules or (b) in Geography with a specialisation in Human Geography or in the case of fewer than 130 CP in Geography modules or in a Natural Science subject relevant to Geography. In the case of letter b), the Examination Board decides on admissions to the degree course and whether or not the applicant’s background has the required relevance to Geography Sufficient proficiency in English. Applicants who obtained neither their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution nor a degree in a course conducted in German are required to provide evidence of German proficiency at the level of the “German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Students” (DSH).
