Evidence of German sign language proficiency at level A2. Alternatively, a "Zertifikat Mittelstufe" (intermediate level certificate) issued by the examination committee of the GIB (Society, Inclusion, Education), can be provided. As a rule, this corresponds to the successful completion of the German sign language courses 1-4 at an adult education school (A2 CEFR). In addition, there is the possibility to acquire the knowledge by attending a relevant course, which is to be taken before the start of the study programme. For admission to the study programme, a self-test in which at least one deaf person is involved must also be completed. The purpose of the test is to confirm the command of basic structures in sign language grammar and prove the ability to conduct a simple everyday conversation in German sign language. A further component is an interview about the field of Sign Language Interpreting and course-related characteristics.
