The Master's degree in Sociology with a focus on empirical social research at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Tübingen offers excellent research-oriented further qualification in the subject of Sociology. Research focuses are: • Practical research skills through application-oriented teaching research projects • Deepening of quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social research in the course of the study • Specialisation in content in the main research areas of the institute Structure of the course The core of the Master's program is the imparting of practical research skills as part of a three-semester teaching research project. As part of a team, you independently carry out an empirical study and in this way, learn to put your acquired specialist knowledge into practice. The following topics are dealt with in the application-oriented teaching research projects: Family policies and parenthood, flight and migration, subjective consequences of social inequality and more. In addition to deepening quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods in small groups, this Master's program also offers specialisation options in the following areas: Migration, Education and Life Course Gender Body Knowledge Social Inequality and Institutions An interdisciplinary field of study complements the chosen areas of work and serves to reflect Sociology in the mirror of other subjects or scientific cultures. You complete your studies with the Master thesis, in which you work on a self-chosen topic of Empirical or Theoretical Sociology according to scientific methods. In the sense of an international orientation of the course, English-language courses are offered every semester, and we support students in planning a study stay abroad (preferably in the fourth semester).
