Target group

Education is a crucial building block of our biography. It is crucial for our personal development, our professional career and how we participate in society. The aim of educational research is to provide the necessary knowledge base for policy and practice to enable every individual to receive a good education. It will explore questions such as: •\tWhy do people learn differently? •\tWhat part do aptitude and motivation play in learning success? •\tHow can the German education system improve in international comparison? The Master's degree course in Empirical Educational Research and Educational Psychology (EBPP) is a strongly psychology-oriented degree course in which students learn to apply theories and methods of psychology to educational and educational science issues. The application of quantitative, empirical research methods (structural equation models, multilevel analysis, item response theory) plays a central role. In the Master EBPP, one specialises and uses these to get resilient answers to practically relevant educational questions. Understanding education, helping to shape education: In addition, existing studies such as PISA and TIMSS will be analysed: What are the main findings? How resilient and transferable are these to new framework conditions? In the Master EBPP, students also learn how the findings from educational research can be used to improve learning processes and educational systems. This includes diagnostics, the development of training measures and the evaluation of educational measures. Electives allow students to tailor their studies to their individual interests and needs. In this way, it can be adapted to the respective previous knowledge and aligned with the field of employment in which one would like to work after graduation. Students may choose to focus on research or application, and may also complete an internship in the latter. Possible careers: Our graduates are sought after everywhere where teaching and learning play a role, e.g. •\tin educational institutions •\tin educational administration and policy (e.g. regional councils and ministries) •\tin school development •\tin professional/ private further education •\tin foundations •\tin the open economy The degree course creates ideal conditions for a scientific career. Doctoral studies are possible within the framework of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network. The course can be recognised for full membership of the Professional Association of German Psychologists (BDP).
