Target group

The Master in Democracy and Governance in Europe prepares you optimally for a practical or academic career. You will learn to deal theoretically with all aspects of governance in the European multi-level system. In terms of content, you are very familiar with the developments at the European level and in the Member States. The main focus of the course is on the comparison of the EU Member States (Comparative Policy Research) in horizontal terms and the increasing vertical integration between the Member States and the institutions of the European Union (European Integration Research). Central themes are the European multi-level system and normative questions of governance in Europe. This includes a critical analysis of European power and governance structures. In Tübingen, we offer you comprehensive access to European research via political science. Democracy and governance in Europe are the main themes. You will examine the central normative questions of governance as well as the relationship between democracy and the economy. In contrast to interdisciplinary study programmes, which are often characterised by a juxtaposition of different disciplinary perspectives, interdisciplinary aspects are specifically integrated into the political science MA programme. We thus provide you with an in-depth insight into the analytical concept of the multi-level system and the use of comparative methods to interlink the horizontal perspective and the vertical analysis of the interacting levels and to integrate them into a holistic view.
