Annotation

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has renamed the subject "Social Sciences (Political Science, Sociology, Economics)" in its Ordinance on the Admission of Teachers (Lehramtszugangsverordnung, LZV) to "Economics-Politics" for the Teaching qualification at German lower secondary schools and comprehensive schools or "Economics-Politics/Social Sciences" for the Teaching qualification at grammar schools and comprehensive schools. Bielefeld University criticises this narrowing and will continue to offer a broad range of Social Sciences for the Teaching qualification, at least in the Bachelor's degree course. Sociology is not only, as the justification for the change in the LZV states, 'necessary in elements' for the understanding of social processes, it is a core discipline of the social sciences and thus indispensable for its status as a social science. What does this mean for you as a prospective or current student? In Bielefeld, you study the social sciences and, within this subject, also the areas of economics and politics - but not narrowed down to these areas. The degree course fulfils all legal requirements including the requirements of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States in the Federal Republic of Germany and qualifies you with the subsequent Master of Education for the teaching subjects Economics-Politics and Economics-Politics/Social Sciences. Should further requirements be added in the coming years, these will of course also be taken into account in the design of the degree course. So you don't have to worry about being disadvantaged or having problems getting hired into the Teaching qualification with a degree in social sciences. It has not yet been decided whether changes in the designation of the Master of Education course will be necessary. Any additions to be made on your certificate would be made in due time. It is certain that your degree course of social sciences in Bielefeld fulfils all the requirements of the school subject economics-politics and the subject social sciences. Continue to the subject Social Sciences: https://www.hochschulkompass.de/hs/universitaet_bielefeld/sozialwissenschaften In the combined bachelor's degree for the Teaching Qualification, this subject can be studied as a core subject or minor subject (grammar school and comprehensive school) or as a subject (German lower secondary schools and comprehensive schools).
