KIWi Publications

Kurzanalysen HAW

With its KIWi Impuls, KIWi Compass and DAAD Globus publication series, KIWi provides German universities and scientific institutions with up-to-date data on foreign higher education systems, analyses and practical examples, and offers recommendations on initiating and implementing international cooperation.

The thematic expertise of KIWi in key areas such as Risks and Security or Legal Frameworks, combined with the country specific know-how of the DAAD (and its global network shape) and the cooperation experience of its member universities, all contribute to the creation of the publications.

KIWi Impuls

KIWi Impuls addresses current issues at the intersection of geoscience and science policy, playing an active role in shaping the discourse on higher education policy. In doing so, the DAAD classifies ongoing debates and formulates positions and definitions. KIWi Impuls also addresses challenges and trends in international scientific cooperation, identifying options for action for stakeholders in science and politics.

KIWi Impuls "Reconstruction of higher education in Syria"
This KIWi Impuls Paper provides an overview of the current political situation and state of higher education in Syria, identifying priorities for short-, medium- and long-term action. Within this framework, the DAAD, in collaboration with the German Federal Government, the European Union, and partners in Europe and the Middle East, proposes measures to be implemented over the coming years to promote the reconstruction of Syria’s higher education sector.

KIWi Compass

The KIWi Compass series comprises various publications designed to support German universities evaluate opportunities and challenges in international academic cooperation. They provide scientists and researchers with valuable information to help collaborate with partners abroad in an informed way.

In addition to the generic KIWi Compass "No red lines", which focuses on a systematic chance-risk-analysis based on selected criteria, the Cooperation Guidelines provide a comprehensive overview of higher education systems in selected countries and, drawing on experience gained in project practice, also address the intercultural characteristics of a country or cultural area.

KIWi Compass Cooperation Guidelines
The country-specific Cooperation Guidelines in the KIWi Compass series provide a comprehensive, project-oriented overview of how to structure international scientific cooperation.

DAAD Globus

The DAAD Globus series presents regional information in a variety of forms and levels of detail. Country reports and education system analyses ("Bildungssystemanalysen", BSA) provide current statistical data on the higher education landscape, degree programmes, international cooperation and DAAD funding schemes. Users can compare these analyses with each other using various indicators and evaluate them on a digital basis (customised BSA). Country-specific so-called Brief Analysis ("Kurzanalysen") and Infographics specifically take the needs of universities of applied sciences into account.

Country Reports
DAAD country reports provide information on the general characteristics of foreign education and science systems, explain the status of internationalisation and the focal points of educational cooperation. They also highlight relevant DAAD activities on site. All country reports are available for download in alphabetical order. This list is continuously expanded and updated.
