Internationality has always been a characteristic feature of Heidelberg University. As early as 1926, the university organised the first International Summer School of German Language and Culture. The school attracts more than 500 students from all over the world every year. The International Summer School's programme is noted for combining high-quality language instruction at all levels – from elementary courses to advanced seminars for GFL teachers and postgraduate students of German – with a whole range of additional activities and an extensive social and cultural programme.
