English in Academics: Presentations, Negotiations and Writing (B1–C1)
The first part of this two-week course aims to train specific skills required for giving presentations and informal talks in English: how to introduce oneself, maintain a clear structure, interact with an audience, use visual media, deal with questions, etc. We will focus on developing the language skills required for successful negotiations in a variety of contexts. The atmosphere will be relaxed and informal throughout, helping participants break down any inhibitions they may feel about speaking in public. This second part of the course will concentrate on written English in an academic context. The workshop nature of the course will encourage participants to produce short texts on a variety of subjects and to use them as a basis for identifying areas of difficulty and working on them constructively. The course will also provide useful tips on aspects such as style, structure and coherence. In addition, participants will be encouraged to develop effective strategies for reading academic texts in English. The approach will be creative and informal, encouraging participants to share ideas and learn from each other’s work.
