Programme Description

The Foundation awards every year 30 sponsorships to junior researchers who wish to undertake autonomous, fixed-term research immediately within up to two years following their doctorates. They are to be offered the opportunity to fully concentrate on the research project they have selected with the help of a post-doc research stipend.

Funding is basically reserved for projects that are related to the promotion areas of the Foundation and have a clear connection to the German research system. This connection can be established either at a personal level through German scientists working on the project, at an institutional level through non-German scientists being affiliated to German research institutes or through studies on topics related thematically to German research interests.

Stipend holders receive a monthly sponsorship of EUR 1,800, independent of age. To cover material and travel expenses, i.e. for books or trips to other work groups which are directly related to the research work, candidates may be granted an allowance of EUR 200 per month. In addition, contributions to the stipendee's travel to the research location are paid and, if necessary, a child allowance.
