  • Application address for all programmes is the London Branch Office.
  • The exact application deadlines are to requested from the homepage of the DAAD in London.
  • Application documents must be submitted unfastened, one-sided written, format DIN A 4, and without application folders.
  • Certified copies of certificates must only be provided on request after a successful selection for a grant.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists
  • Grants for a stay longer than 6 months are decided once a year. Application deadline: 15 January.
  • Grants for a stay up to 6 months are decided twice a year. Application deadlines: 15 April (for a term between July and January of the following year) respectively 15 October (for a term between January and June of the following year).
  • Applications have to be carried out online via the DAAD portal.
  • Important information: A hotline has been set up to help you if you have questions or problems with your online application. However, this hotline service is not available on German public holidays or weekends. Make sure you send us your application in good time, especially if the closing date for applications falls on a public holiday or at the weekend.
  • The DAAD will pay an appropriate flat-rate travel allowance.
  • Applicants from Ireland for a research grant are expected to be able to prove that they have good German language skills at the time of application. Proof of good English language skills may also be accepted, especially in science and engineering disciplines and when English is spoken at the host institute. In that case please submit a written confirmation of the host university.
  • A certificate proving the German language skills is not necessary for grants to run less than 6 months.
  • Only limited resources are available to fund full doctoral programmes in Germany.
Research stays for University Academics and Scientists
  • Research stays are decided twice a year. Applications must have been submitted
    by 15 April (for stays from July of the same year through to January of the next) or
    by 15 October (for stays from January till June of the following year).
  • No flat-rate travel allowance
Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders
  • Applications for re-invitations are decided twice a year. Applications must have reached the DAAD London Office by the following deadlines:
    15 April (for stays from July of the same year through to January of the next) or
    15 October (for stays from January to June in the following year).
  • No flat-rate travel allowance
Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines
  • Applications for scholarships are decided once a year. Applications must have reached the DAAD London Office by 2 January.
  • The DAAD will pay an appropriate flat-rate travel allowance.
  • Only a limited amount of the scholarships can be extended.
Scholarships for Artists and Architects: Study Scholarships
  • Applications for study scholarships are decided once a year.
  • Applications from the field of arts (fine arts, design, visual communication, film), music (incl. jazz, dance and choreography) have to be submitted till 1 November.
  • An appropriate travel grant will be paid.
University Summer Course Grants for Foreign Students and Graduates
  • The application documents have to be submitted to the DAAD Branch Office in London by 15 December.
  • Students in their first year are eligible to apply, too.
Study Visits / Study Seminars and Practicals in Germany by Groups of Foreign Students
  • There are special conditions for applicants from Ireland. Information und application forms are to be received at www.daad.org.uk
