The student housing complex "Carl-Schurz-Haus" is located in the Südstadt quarter at the edge of the city centre of Bonn, very close to the Nassestraße cafeteria and the Juridicum. Walking distance to the main university building is only five minutes.

The student accommodation was renovated completely at the end of 2005. 55 single rooms with communal kitchen and sanitary facilities are provided on four storeys.

Rent deposit

Tenants are required to pay a deposit before conclusion of the agreement. This always amounts to one-and-a-half to two monthly rents. The deposit is not subject to payment of interest (in compliance with Section 551 (3) of the German Civil Code (§ 551 Abs. 3 BGB)).

Duration of housing

In order to give as many students as possible a chance to rent inexpensively, rental periods in Studentenwerk dorms are limited to six to eight semesters. An extension can only be considered in exceptional cases.

Community facilities are available in the dorms. There are washing machines and dryers that can be used for a fee.
No car parking spaces are available, but there are plenty of bike parking spaces in the cellar and in front of the building.

Recreation and culture

Museums, Hofgarten (park), Poppelsdorfer Schloss (castle) and Rhein accessible within 10 minutes.

Special deals for students with children / families

The Student Services Bonn operate a total of five child day care centres, one of which is a certified NRW Family Centre. A total of 230 children from the age of four months to school enrolment age are cared for and supported by more than 60 qualified professionals. Children of students and members of the university with the corresponding communal domicile are accepted.

Application requirements

Only students from the University of Bonn and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences are entitled to live in the facilities. Students from other universities can only reside in the facilities during internships which are taking place as part of their studies.

Programme students (Junior Year Programme and Direct Exchange)

Students will be housed in one of several coed student dorms, which are located in different areas of town. All dorms can easily be reached either by foot or by public transportation. All rooms are single rooms. Some are equipped with a kitchenette and a private bathroom while others have shared facilities.

For students in international degree programmes rooms might be reserved. Please contact your programme coordinator concerning this possibility.

Applications for accommodation are non binding an can be sent without proof of matriculation or admittance to the university.
