A deposit has to be made on conclusion of a tenancy agreement. There is no interest on the deposit.
Duration of housing
The period will be up to 37 months, but at the longest until such time as the entitlement to residence has lapsed. Extension by up to 13 months is possible upon application.

Standard application procedure
Persons entitled to occupy the Student Residences operated by Studierendenwerk Mannheim are students of the following institutions of higher education:
- Co-operative State University
- University of Applied Sciences
- University of Popular Music
- University of Music and Performing Arts
- University of Mannheim
- Participants in courses at the Goethe-Institute Mannheim-Heidelberg
Early appplications will give you the best chance.
The application takes place online and is non-binding. The admission letter of the university can be handed in later.
Exchange students from overseas
The International Office provides a limited number of student hall of residence rooms for exchange students from overseas and offers support in finding private rooms. The International Office only intermediate the housing process. The official landlord is "Studentenwerk Mannheim".
Exchange students coming to Mannheim can book a room in a student hall of residence. After your admission, you will receive a link to Studentenwerk Mannheim's portal myUniMA where you can book a room as long as there are vacancies. Please read through all provided information carefully before you book a room!
After registration and booking, please print the confirmation, sign it and send it back to the International Office. At the same time, please transfer the deposit and the first month's rent. As soon as the payment as well as the confirmation are received, the reservation is binding. If you later want to withdraw, exempt of charges, it can only be done by finding a replacement tenant! This means the rent must be paid until another tenant is found!
