For the DAAD, the end of a scholarship marks the beginning of a long-term relationship with its alumni. Our aim is to foster connections among alumni and between the DAAD and alumni. We do this through a range of measures, from helping to set up alumni clubs to offering various funding programmes and activities. Some of the support options for foreign alumni are intended for former one-year scholarship holders, while others are aimed at German universities to enable them to provide follow-up assistance for their international alumni. The DAAD also holds subject-specific and interdisciplinary alumni meetings in different countries every year, and provides financial support for smaller events organised by alumni themselves.
The DAAD regards its alumni as long-term partners. Their networks are to be both regionally anchored and to pursue impactful cross-border projects, support international cooperation by German universities and foreign science policy programmes and generate own impulses for collaboration.
