Staff, structures & processes

The DAAD is an association of German institutions of higher education and their student bodies. Convening in a general assembly, they elect the Executive Committee which oversees the organisation’s day-to-day operations. Since it was founded in 1925, the DAAD has supported more than 1.9 million academics in Germany and abroad. It relies on a strong organisational structure, a worldwide network of partners and alumni and a motivated staff of over 900 employees.

President

Thilo Vogel

Prof. Dr. Margret Wintermantel has been the president of the DAAD since 1 January 2012. She was confirmed in office at the DAAD’s General Assembly on 23 June 2015, renewing her mandate until 31 December 2019.

Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee, president of the University of Giessen, has served as vice president of the DAAD since January 2012. He was confirmed in office at the DAAD’s General Assembly on 23 June 2015, renewing his mandate until 31 December 2019.
