Masters' Scholarships at Jordanian Universities for the Year 2005

Eligible:

Palestinian Graduates (Sciences and Engineering only) who graduated in 2003 or 2004 and have an accumulative average of at least very good (80% and above). They should envisage an academic career at a Palestinian University and be supported in this by their respective universities. (This program is designed as a faculty-building program. After having obtained a Master’s Degree in Jordan, an application can be submitted for a Ph.D. program in Germany). Maximum age at the time of application: 26 years.

Requirements:

         1. Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)

2. Certified copies (do not submit originals!) of the Tawjihe-Certificate, of the Bachelor’s Degree and of the complete transcript (all in English). Photocopies will not be accepted!

3. Recommendation by the Head of your Department plus additional recommendations (as detailed and specific as possible) by other academic teachers. Only original letters in a sealed envelope will be accepted!

4. Two recent photos.

5. Choice of one of the Jordanian universities (it is your responsibility to make sure that your desired specialization and Master’s course is available at the respective university).

Special note for graduates in nursing: requirement for enrollment in any Masters Program is two years of professional experience after your graduation!

6. Copy of your passport.

7. Applications must be submitted in duplicate (i.e. two separate complete packages with a complete application in each package).

Application-Deadline: August 31st, 2004

Please, use the red application-papers (In-Country-Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies). Only complete applications will be accepted and processed.

Only those applicants who submit a complete application and fulfill all the requirements, will be invited to an interview (which will be held in English, not in Arabic!) by a bi-national Palestinian-German Committee, which will make a preliminary choice. (It is your responsibility to check when your personal interview is scheduled and to confirm it with the DAAD Office in Jerusalem).

Results of these interviews will be available as soon as possible after completion of all of them.

The final decision will be made by a German academic committee at the DAAD Head Office in Bonn, in February 2005. Results will be available by the end of March 2005 or later.

If your application is not successful, please phone the DAAD office in Jerusalem to find out, if and how your papers can be returned to you. Please understand, that under the current circumstances, we cannot be made responsible for the returning of your papers – we can only do our best. Application-papers sent to Germany cannot be returned.

The chosen candidates will be registered at Jordanian Universities through the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education in June 2005.

If your name appears on the shortlist of applications submitted to the DAAD Head Office in Bonn, please prepare all the Documents required for registration at the Jordanian universities:

  1. Certified copy of birth certificate (in Arabic).
  1. Certified copies of Tawjihe and Bachelor’s-Degree as well as of complete transcript (in Arabic)
  1. C.V. in Arabic.
  1. Photocopy of relevant pages in Jordanian Passport (if candidates do hold such a document) resp. photocopy of Palestinian Passport.
  1. 6 recent passport-photos

All candidates who were selected for as scholarship or were put on the reserve-list should submit these documents to the office of the DAAD-Representative in East Jerusalem or to the German Representative Office in Gaza not later than April 15th 2005.

The academic year in Jordan will most probably start by the end of September 2005 (it is your responsibility to check this with your chosen university in Jordan).
