International Courses

Undergraduate, Graduate und Postgraduate Degree Courses in Germany

Numerous German institutions of higher education offer international degree courses. These degree courses, which are financed partly by the German Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF) and partly by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have been selected from a large number of applications and are supported by the DAAD. The German Rector's Conference (HRK) is actively involved in the selection process.

These courses are of particular interest to foreign and to internationally-oriented German students. The range of study opportunities covers undergraduate degree courses for students beginning their studies and graduate/postgraduate courses for advanced students. Except for a small number of special cases, the predominant or exclusive language of instruction, at least in the first semesters, is English.

All degree courses feature the following conditions:

  • High academic standard
  • Courses and lectures helHighd in English (for further details on the language of instruction please refer to the individual programme descriptions)
  • Tightly-organised study programmes.
  • International degrees
  • German language courses offered before and during the programme
  • Special services: academic and personal support services provided by tutors and mentors, intensive study counselling, work in small groups, etc.
  • Opportunities for study periods at partner universities and colleges abroad
  • No tuition fees

In many of the programmes, German students will account for half the number of participants, thereby offering these students the opportunity to gain international skills and
qualifications through their attendance of English-instructed courses and study periods abroad.

The DAAD website provides an initial summary of the selected degree programmes at:

http://www.daad.de/deutschland/en/2.2.4.html

Further information on the admission conditions and requirements, application deadlines and formalities is available directly from the specified contact address at the respective higher education institution. The individual higher education institutions are themselves responsible for deciding on the acceptance and admission of applicants. Their decisions are made on the basis of applicant qualitiy criteria.

For the admission to any of the undergraduate programmes an equivalent to the general higher education entrance qualification is required. To be admitted to any of the postgraduate programmes in general a Bachelor's degree will be the admission requirement. However in certain cases additional periods of study in a respective field may be necessary in order to fulfill the admission requirements for the course.  Most courses require good knowledge of English to be proven by tests like the TOEFL. Although it may be named in most of the programme descriptions all institutions will accept equivalent tests which might be more commonly used in certain areas of the world.

None of the listed degree programmes charge tuition fees as they receive subsidies by the German government. Thus, participants of the courses will only have to bear the
cost of living.
