About us
The DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, is an organization of all
German
universities and organizes academic exchange between Germany and all foreign countries
worldwide. Because of its very difficult situation, Palestine has been one focus in the
work of DAAD. Every year dozens of students, postgraduates as well as professors are
supported by DAAD in order to complete their studies or to do research, respectively.
The exchange, however, works also in the opposite direction. DAAD has been sponsoring a
German visiting professor in the Social Sciences at Birzeit University for the last years.
Moreover, every year, German professors visit Palestinian Universities, both for one or
several lectures as well as on short-term teaching assignments up to six months. Finally,
a good number of German M.A. and Ph.D. students come to Palestine on scholarships to do
field-research here on a variety of topics, above all in the Social Sciences.
We are pleased to announce that as from June 1st 2004 Dr. Helga
Baumgarten will be the Head of the DAAD Information Office in East Jerusalem.
Her assistant, Mrs. Eveline Muhareb, will be happy to give you all
information about the scholarship programs.
