How to submit an internship offer
Program structure / placement processDAAD and its affiliated associations are seeking internships at German universities and research institutes. The PhD students can register online between October 1st and November 30th, 2011 and can submit their internship offers online, together with the project descriptions. After an examination by the DAAD, the internship offers will be released under password protection on December 6, 2011 for the interested students from North America and Great Britain as well as for potential PhD students from Germany. This year, up to 300 vacancies can be considered.
Parallel to that, the RISE program will be publicized by North American associations as well as representatives of DAAD in North America and Great Britain among the relevant faculties of American, Canadian and British universities. Interested students can register online for a research stay in Germany from December 6, 2011 to January 31, 2012 and submit their application papers electronically (PDF-format and online forms). It is possible to apply for up to three projects. The PhD students rank the applicants as a basis for the final selection procedure by DAAD.
8 - 12 weeks; start between May 15th and July 15th, 2012.
Terms of fundingDAAD supports the scholarship recipients with a monthly stipend of € 650 and provides health insurance and accident and personal/private liability insurance for the period of the scholarship. In addition, there will be a limited number of scholarships for projects for which the guest institute will finance the scholarship benefits ("mini-scholarships”).

- You supervise the assigned scholarship holders both professionally as well as in finding accommodation, handling bureaucratic issues and if necessary recreational activities
PhD students can apply online from October 1st to November 30th, 2011.
Please submit the following documents online:

- A letter of recommendation from the supervisor of the research group. The corresponding form "Befürwortung einer Teilnahme am RISE Programm 2012” will be available for download after your registration. The completed form must be sent by mail to DAAD by November 30th, 2011 (postmark deadline).

- "Ministipendien: Co-Finanzierung durch das Institut” ("Mini-Scholarships: Co-Financing through the host institution”). In this context DAAD provides RISE interns with health insurance as well as accident and personal liability insurance and a paid-for three-day scholarship holder meeting. The monthly rate of EURO 650,- is to be paid by the host institution. DAAD offers the option "Ministipendien/Mini-Scholarships” in order to sponsor more students than the RISE program’s financial budget would allow. Consequently, we will rely on your "Ministipendien/Mini-Scholarships” if your project cannot be supported through a fully DAAD financed scholarship.
- "Ministipendien: Kooperation DAAD-DFG: Graduiertenkollegs, Graduiertenschulen, Sonderforschungsbereiche, Exzellenzcluster" ("Mini-Scholarships: Cooperation DAAD-DFG: Research Training Groups (GRK), Graduate Schools, DFG-Collaborative Research Centres (SFB) and Clusters of Excellence"). The international research cooperation of the RISE program is supported by the close cooperation with the German Research Foundation (www.dfg.de). Thanks to this cooperation 323 RISE scholarships have been funded since 2006. Members of Research Training Groups, Graduate Schools, DFG-Collaborative Research Centers and Clusters of Excellence are encouraged to supply a project offer and apply for a research assistant. Please use therefore the above described form.
Note:
Please mail DAAD only the letter of recommendation from the supervisor of the research group and, if necessary, the signed forms "Ministipendien: Co-Finanzierung durch das Institut” and "Ministipendien: Kooperation DAAD-DFG: Graduiertenkollegs, Graduiertenschulen, Sonderforschungsbereiche, Exzellenzcluster".
Should additional documents be relevant, please send everything in a single envelope to DAAD. Thank you!
