The annual report 2010 has been published in a new design and format. In this way we would like to provide you with an overview of the most important projects and figures of the past year, as well as with the broad spectrum of the DAAD’s tasks and goals, in an informative and likewise reader-friendly fashion.
Taken as a whole, 2010 has been a good year for the DAAD. In spite of the economic crisis the budget has risen to 384 million euros. Due to this, 10 percent more scholarship holders could be supported compared to the previous year – altogether almost 74,000 Germans and foreigners around the globe. 20 new programmes have been initiated, many of which are co-financed by partners abroad.
The DAAD has been enabling young academics to gain international experience for 85 years, being the largest funding organisation of its kind worldwide. Over the course of the time a whole range of new challenges had to be faced, which are presented in the annual report with the help of concrete examples: The DAAD contributes to the internationalisation of German higher education institutions, supports developing countries in establishing their educational systems and promotes German Studies and the German language abroad. Its Artists-in-Berlin Programme belongs to the internationally most renowned scholarship programmes for artists.
