Erasmus Mundus Master and PhD Scholarships Updated on 16.04.2012

Erasmus Mundus is a European cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with non-European countries. As one line of action the Erasmus Mundus programme is offering Master's and PhD scholarships for selected courses offered jointly by at least two European universities .

Erasmus Mundus Master Course

GLITEMA - German Literature in the European Middle Ages

The GLITEMA (German Literature in the European Middle Ages) EMMC is an integrated Master Course run by a consortium of three full partner universities (Porto, PT [co-ordinator], Bremen, Palermo), supported by a number of associated partner HEIs (Amsterdam, FU Berlin, Cairo, Greifswald, Olomouc, Ljubljana, Moscow [Lomonosov],  North Carolina,  Rio de Janeiro,  Santiago de Compostela, Vienna, Zurich).

Since most of the course will be taught in German, a good working knowledge of the language (level C.1 in Bremen and B.2 in Palermo and Porto) is a pre-requirement; tuition in this language will be offered by Palermo and Porto, while students are also expected to gain linguistic skills in Italian and/or Portuguese through intensive language training programmes.

For the academic year 2012-13, the Consortium will be able to award stipends to students from outside the EU. The stipend includes 24 monthly payments of 1.000 € for general living expenses, 16.000 € for the payment of participation costs and 8.000 € towards the payment of travel, installation and insurance costs.

PhD and Research Scholarships Updated on 11.05.2012

1) Doctoral Scholarships of the DFG Research Training Group

The DFG Research Training Group GRK 1763 "Quantitative Logics and Automata" offers 10 Doctoral Scholarships for applicants interested in performing high-quality research on the connection between quantitative logics and automata as well as their applications in verification, knowledge representation, natural language processing, and semi-structured data (XML).

Financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the scholarships (including a supplement) amount to € 1460/month (tax exempt) for up to three years. In addition, research and travel funds will be provided. Doctoral students with children will get additional funds and the possibility of extending the scholarship according to the regulations of the DFG.

2) Doctoral Scholarships of the International Graduate Research Training Group 1524

the International Graduate Research Training Group 1524 is offering 8 Doctoral Scholarships or research projects concerned with fundamental properties of self-assembled nanostructures forming at surfaces and interfaces. Research focuses on both characterization of such nanostructures and principles driving their formation.

Scholarships are awarded for a maximum period of up to 3 years, starting individually during 2012. Doctoral fellows will receive a stipend of € 1.303 per month, incl. material cost allowance. Additional childcare allowance will be granted if applicable.

3) Doctoral Scholarships of the University of Bayreuth

The University of Bayreuth is offering 8 Doctoral Stipends (beginning as filled) related to the research areas of plant growth modelling, agricultural adaptation, modelling of trace gas emissions, forest management, agricultural and forest economics, soil-landscape modeling, ecosystem DOC/DON release, small catchment hydrology or ecohydrology, stable isotope applications, and water management.

Participants will conduct research in both Germany and Korea. Doctoral stipends pay 1150 Euro per month in Bayreuth plus travel costs and a supplemental living cost of 1300 Euro for months spent in Korea.
