International cooperation in the academic area is therefore an integral component of sustainable development cooperation. Knowledge transfers through the exchange of information with people. The DAAD furthers and supports this exchange and thus the education and continuing education and training of tomorrow’s key leaders.

In that respect, supporting education in the home regions with surplus stipends is attributed to the well-proven instruments of the country-related scholarship programs for students, graduates, and scientists. They are the same people who take up the special need for education in engineering, natural, and economical sciences in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Practice-related graduate study programs with topics relevant to the development countries offered at German higher education institutions, convey state-of-the-art development-relevant research and methods.
