The DIES Deans’ Course Africa started with a pilot course in 2007 for participants from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
After the successful completion of the pilot course DAAD offers the International Deans’ Course Africa every two years in cooperation with African trainers who bring in their regional expertise.
The current course for participants from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda starts in Osnabrueck and Berlin in June 2011 with a ten-day introduction phase (part I) about the fundamental topics of faculty management. Furthermore the participants start to develop reform projects (the so-called project action plans) which they will realise at their home institutions. In November 2011 the participants will meet in regional subgroups (part II) in two parallel workshops in Nigeria and Kenya. At these events, the participants will discuss the status of their "project action plans" with other international experts and colleagues. The course will be concluded with a five-day-workshop (part III) in March 2012 in Ethiopia in cooperation with the Addis Ababa University.
