Alumni of different DIES training programmes have joint forces in regional alumni networks – in this work, they are being particularly supported by DIES since 2010. Their main objective is to ensure the sustainability of DIES Training Courses, to enable professional exchange as well as to facilitate the multiplication of knowledge acquired in the context of the DIES Training Courses. DIES-Alumni shall hence be supported in offering regionally adapted training opportunities on topics of higher education management and quality assurance in their home countries.
In order to intensify the work of the multiplication networks and to allow for a exchange of experience throughout all target regions, a "Training of the Trainers” seminar took place in Kassel-Witzenhausen in August 2011. On this occasion 26 of the leading regional network coordinators and trainers from Southeast Asia, Central America and East Africa participated.
One of the existing DIES-Alumni networks is the one in Mexico and Central America named GUCAL (Grupo Universitario para la Calidad en América Latina). The programme "DECARA 2”, which is coordinated by the University of Kassel, offers training activities for capacity development within this network. In 2010 a regional workshop took place in Mexico and in each of the six Central American countries: Mexico (12 participants), Nicaragua (43 participants), Guatemala (24), Panama (28), Costa Rica (37), El Salvador (32) and Honduras (23).
Prior to the national workshops a regional preparation workshop with 14 participants had been realised. For the Mexican participants a two-part Coaching-Workshop with 19 respectively 12 participants was conducted additionally.
In October 2010, the East African DIES-Alumni Network REAL (Regional Eastern African Alumni Network) - in collaboration with the University of Kassel - organized a regional seminar for further planning of the network cooperation with 26 participants in Nairobi. Next to the exchange of experiences and the organisation of the network activities, the conception of national trainings, inter alia for heads of newly developing and decentralized campus universities was the key objective of this conference.
In February 2010, the Indonesian DIES-Alumni Network INDOSTAFF realized a workshop with 38 participants in Malang, Indonesia in collaboration with the General Directory for Higher Education (DIKTI). Topic of this workshop was the planning of further multiplication workshops, which should be realized in cooperation with DIKTI.
