Online lernen, Bild: g.a.s.t/DUOYou would like to learn German at home? No problem! In addition to taking courses at language schools and in university preparatory programmes, you can also learn German through one of numerous Internet language courses now available. The following is a small selection of Internet-based language courses.

Learning German together

Gemeinsam kochen, Bild: privatThere are German students at almost every university in Germany who are anxious to take care of their fellow foreign students. The most popular form of support is a "language partnership” or "language tandem" in which two people get together and teach each their native language. We introduce to one of these language tandems.

DAAD Glossary

Kommilitone

"Kommilitone" is the common term for fellow student.

Universität

"Universität" means university and is used for research universities (wissenschaftliche Hochschulen) that offer a broad range of subjects (like arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, economics and business administration, law, medicine). These institutions confer doctorates. The strong research focus benefits students in their training. Please note, however, that English texts often use the term "university" generically, i.e. to cover all kinds of higher education institutions, for example, universities of the arts, universities of applied sciences, universities of education, etc.
