Home sweet home
This is my final blog because I’m finally back home in the UK after eight exciting weeks in Germany. I am glad to come back home to my family – it has been a long time away with limited contact and it is nice to be able to get some home comforts again. At the same time, I will definitely miss living in Aachen, it was sad saying goodbye to my friends but maybe some time in the future I will return.
During my final few weekends I ramped up the travelling and got to see some more fantastic places including Hamburg, Luxembourg and Berlin.
Berlin was my favourite because of the sheer quantity of places to see and to visit which is a result of the city’s sad and fractured history. It was very interesting to learn about this and see how the city is still struggling to come to terms with its past. Despite the sombre memorials all over the city, Berlin was also very fun and lively and some glorious weather made my time there even better.
I would like to thank the DAAD for organising the RISE program – this has been a summer to remember – and I would definitely recommend the scheme to anyone considering it.
