Thursday 28th May
Hi, me again! Preparations for my exchange are continuing. Since last week I have finally got in touch both with Rise and with Matthias my contact, neither of whom had forgotten me after all. Rise has logged my start and end dates and an acceptance letter should be coming my way soon, meanwhile Matthias is in the process of finding me accommodation, so everything is going very well on the preparations side.
At the same time project work at Cambridge continues, I built the compressor I had been designing for my turbocharger project on Tuesday and got back on Thursday to discover that my lab partner had painted the rotor black and been squirting what looks like pink rave-paint through the stator to have a go at flow visualisation. Shame I wasn’t there to actually see what happened, all I know is that my compressor is now a bright pink mess that might not work very well, and I also have pink paint on my shirt. I do however have some pressure readings and I’ll be busy running through them this evening to see if I can find out what on earth is going on!
The sun is also shining again after a 24 hour hiatus yesterday and the birds are singing. I think I’m off to the pub to get in some high quality thinking time before I deal with the pressure readings! Goodbye til next week. PS when I write my blog the week after next I will actually be in Germany, so hopefully will be able to provide some much needed relevance!
My name is Philip Yorke, I’m Studying Engineering at Cambridge, am in my third of four years and am specialising in fluid dynamics.
Enough food and drink sampling at Anuga? How about some German technology? Just outside Hall 8 of the fair, a mini Zeppelin was spotted hovering above our heads. This fascinating craft is operated by Friedrich, a 20-year-old electrical engineering undergraduate. He flies this Zepplin nine hours a day and walks about at the north entrance [...]
When we leave home and head to a foreign country to study, one of the things we miss the most is FOOD. All those delicious things that reminds us our home country!! At the Anuga, we found people from every part of the world offering their typical food so we can have them at the [...]
