New Year resolutions

Hi everybody! (:

I’m right now in the beautifull city of Joensuu, Finland. Here I spent christmas night and new years eve with a good finnish friend, Saara, who I first met in Brasil two years ago. I was lucky with the weather and even more with the 15 days I spent here. Every single piece of this country delights me, from the sumtuous landscapes to their love for design and the beauty of every spoon or furniture they have in their houses.

Well, I didn’t feel like writing my blog before going back to Germany because I always try not to write “anything”, seeking a kind of  depth in every information I give here.  And that requires a little research, and that (plus my academic life) made me skip some weeks here. I do prefer twitter or tumblr to simply share what someone else said than my blog but before reading an article in the british newspaper The Guardian today I really feel like sharing something here today.

Well, I do not have new year resolutions, like in the way everybody does. And the reason is exactly that: everybody does. But the answer of director Ian Rickson on how he finds creative inspiration, sounds like a couple of very appropriate words to start 2012.

Well, I wish you all a happy 2012! and get inspired by Mr. Rickson:

• Hang on in there. Inspiration can come at any time, even after it feels like you haven’t been getting anywhere. Keep your stamina up, don’t force too hard, and trust that you will find your way.

• Try to create an atmosphere where people feel free to take risks. Fear can shut down creativity, as can the pressure to impress.

• Enable the power of the group, so that what can be collectively achieved transcends the pressure upon any single person.

• Trust the ingenuity and instinctiveness of actors. Surround them with the right conditions and they’ll teach you so much.

• You cannot overprepare. Enjoy being as searching and thorough as possible before you begin, so you can be as free as possible once you’ve started.

• Questions often open the doors of the imagination, even if we feel we should provide answers.

• Embrace new challenges. When we’re reaching for things, we tend to be more creative.

• Try to remove your own ego from the equation. It can get in the way.

• Work hard and relish the opportunities.

• Take a deep breath, and a leap of faith.
