Study, research and teaching abroad

  • Information for German students

The DAAD funds the further academic and personal qualification of outstanding German students, interns and student trainees, (post)graduates, young academics and researchers. This enables successful candidates, chosen by independent academic selection committees, to complete study or research stays at the best universities around the world by awarding scholarships and grants. As far as possible and necessary, the DAAD supports these scholarship holders at their place of study or assignment and maintains contact with DAAD alumni once the funding has come to an end.

Moreover, the DAAD promotes German studies, German language and area studies and corresponding teacher training measures at foreign universities with its Lektors, scholarships and grants, special events and publications. In addition, the DAAD is establishing German Studies Centres at selected leading universities abroad to qualify young students and (post)graduates as future specialists on Germany.

The DAAD is the national information centre for Germans interested in study programmes and funding opportunities abroad. A broad range of publications in the form of books, brochures, leaflets as well as CD-ROMs, provide useful information. These publications are also available for interested students, (post)graduates, academics and researchers. Numerous DAAD publications are produced in co-operation with commercial publishers and are sold through good bookshops. Target group specific information is accessible on the Internet via various databases. An Online Magazine reports on topics of current interest in the field of higher education politics and academic exchange (German only); the Alumni Forum provides a platform for scholarship holders, Lektors, and alumni and enables them to exchange information and opinions world wide.
