German DAAD scholarship holders who wish to keep in touch with the DAAD and with other scholarship holders when they complete their support period can best do so in the Friends of the DAAD.

As Chairman of the 'Friends of the DAAD'

Policy
What unites us
  • We completed a DAAD-supported stay abroad.
  • We share the important experience of studying, teaching or researching abroad.
  • We enjoy meeting the people and cultures of foreign countries.
  • We want to use and pass on our experience.
Goals
Our goals are to
  • guide and counsel foreign DAAD scholarship holders and to help them feel at home during their stay in Germany;
  • assist German scholarship holders before they leave to complete their stay abroad;
  • strengthen the process of international academic exchange;
  • support the DAAD.

You can get the Statutes of the Friends of the DAAD here (in German)

How to Join
We need you to get involved!
The realisation of our goals depends decisively on the support which our members can give us. We would be delighted to welcome you as a member of the Friends of the DAAD. At present, the annual subscription amounts to 40 euros (discounted: 20 euros). You can download the membership application form as well as the direct debit form here (in German).

History
The Friends of the DAAD - officially "Vereinigung Ehemaliger und Freunde des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes e.V." and in short: "DAAD-Freundeskreis" - was established in 1981 with the support of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany "Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft". Since then, the number of members, mainly former DAAD scholarships holders from Germany, has risen to around 1,500.

Member Area
This access-protected area for members of the Friends of the DAAD is integrated into the Forum section. If you are also a DAAD alumnus/alumna, you can use this area to easily inform both the DAAD and the office of the Friends of the DAAD of any changes to your home or work address, etc. In addition, the Forum section offers a whole range of other functions (setting up your own conference for the regional group, discussions with other scholarship holders and alumni, etc.).
