The workshop series International Dialogue on Education Berlin is a joint initiative of the British Council Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German-American Fulbright Commission, the Australian Group of Eight and the Canadian Bureau for International Education in Berlin.

Through the contributions of international participants the series aims to enrich the debate on science, research and higher education policy in Germany, to place German perspectives in a global context and to learn from positive examples from other countries.

As is the case in other major education markets around the world, Canada's institutions of higher education are responding to transformative social and economic change as well as significant shifts in the education marketplace.

Perhaps more than ever, Canada's universities and colleges are compelled to expand their domestic and international recruitment programs - and distinguish their offerings from competitors both at home and abroad. For many institutions, this means an increased focus on building distinct brands and market positions, as well as an increasingly rigorous approach to institutional marketing in general.

This workshop provides an overview of the market forces acting on Canada's universities and explores the application of branding and positioning strategies in higher education institutions. The workshop will emphasize Thompson Rivers University as a real-world case study of brand strategy, and identifies some lessons learned and best practices emerging from TRU's experience.
