The workshop series International Dialogue on Education Berlin is a joint initiative of the British Council Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German-American Fulbright Commission, the Australian Group of Eight and the Canadian Bureau for International Education in Berlin.
Through the contributions of international participants the series aims to enrich the debate on science, research and higher education policy in Germany, to place German perspectives in a global context and to learn from positive examples from other countries.

Winthrop Professor Krishna Sen, an internationally recognised scholar of contemporary Indonesian and media studies commenced her appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia in January 2009. She has held teaching and research positions at Murdoch and Curtin Universities, and was the Executive Director for Humanities and Creative Arts at the Australian Research Council in Canberra, just prior to taking up her position at UWA.
Krishna was born in Calcutta, where she graduated from the University of Calcutta with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in History. She completed a Masters in International Relations from the University of Jadavpur and a PhD in Politics from Monash University in Melbourne.
She is the author of many books, journal articles and conference papers on Indonesian media and culture. Amongst her books are the internationally published: Political Regimes and the Media in Asia, (Co-edited, 2008); The Internet in Indonesia's New Democracy, (Co-authored, 2005); Gender and Power in Affluent Asia (Co-edited 1998) and her first single-authored book Indonesian Cinema: Framing the New Order (1994).
Her research and teaching interests also include gender studies and she has served as a consultant on Human Rights in Indonesia to major international agencies.
Krishna is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities (FAHA) and founding member of the Australian Research Council's Asia Pacific Futures Network and Cultural Research Network. She has served as Vice-president of the Asian Studies Association of Australia (2004-06), as a member of the ARC College of Experts (2005-06) and on the editorial boards of several national and international journals.
